The outlook is cloudy - Benefits, pitfalls and issues in building large-scale clouds
Belfast e-Science Centre (BeSC) built and field deployed their first cloud in Spring 2005. Since then they have developed, field deployed and managed large scale clouds for digital media, financial services, bioinformatics and military applications and established extensive practical experience in cloud technology and the cloud model.
In this presentation, Terry will present an outline of two large-scale clouds BeSC has developed and use them as exemplars for presenting the benefits of the cloud approach, the problems in the developing and managing large-scale clouds, and his view of the strategic issues that must be addressed in embracing the cloud model.
