Examples include the transport API from Bristol City Council, the widgets dashboard supported by Leeds City Council, the use of social media by Torfaen Borough Council and the app for vulnerable children by West Sussex County Council.

Local government is facing unprecedented challenges in terms of digital change. The public demands services that go further than simply being accessible. The expectation now is one of a seamless experience, regardless of which council or internal department is responsible for the task at hand.

As an aid, the Government Digital Service (GDS) created 10 design principles which put users right at the heart of any decision-making. These principles highlight the importance of collaboration, as well as reinforcing that good service design evolves over time.
