Scottish Water launches new website to cope with winter demands

Scottish Water provides drinking and waste water services to 5 million people across Scotland. “During peak times such as winter, when pipes are liable to freeze, or if there are problems with water supply, the website traffic can spike by more than 100%,” says Chris Wallace, Director of Communications at Scottish Water. “This upgrade will make the website even more reliable and easy to navigate for customers looking for advice and information.” The website includes separate business and domestic sections.

We provide Fully Managed Hosting for the Scottish Water website from our UK Data Centre. The site is hosted on our Government Ready Platform which uses virtualisation technology to efficiently meet the demands of traffic peaks.

We developed the website using Sitecore Content Management System. Wallace adds, “The site will be easier to use for our internal contributors, making the addition of video and other new content quicker and more intuitive.” The site also meets the AA standards for accessibility, ensuring it is usable for people with blindness and low vision, deafness and hearing loss, learning and other disabilities.
