New mobile site for British Red Cross features geolocation

British Red Cross is well positioned to take advantage of the explosion in mobile usage with a new mobile site built by our Sitecore developers.
We've developed a mobile website for British Red Cross that takes advantage of HTML 5 to give visitors an app-like experience on their mobile devices.
British Red Cross is one of the largest volunteer-led humanitarian organisations in the UK. The website now allows visitors to use GPS to pinpoint their location and quickly find British Red Cross stores, services or offices in their local area. Now British Red Cross can market its physical stores and drive foot traffic from supporters, as well as increase engagement with health and support services through the simplified local search tool. The mobile site also provides quick access to first aid training courses, events and volunteering opportunities.
“We have taken a giant step towards responding to higher mobile traffic and the way people search and consume information on the move. By offering both mobile and desktop journeys we are able to connect with a wider audience,” says Margaret O’Donnell, Digital Media Manager, British Red Cross.
“Through HTML 5 we were able to redesign our site to better fit the various different smartphone and mobile device screen resolutions. This has allowed us to tailor the mobile experience for faster access, offering key user journeys through an efficient, mobile friendly interface.”
A single CMS supporting multiple devices
We developed the new website and also provided British Red Cross with a flexible content management system which allows editors to quickly and easily update both desktop and mobile sites in a single publishing environment.
“It is becoming increasingly important for charities to stand out from the crowd, and we are pleased to be working with British Red Cross to help them address this,” says John Simcock, our Charity Sector Manager.
“Today, users have multiple ways to get online and it is important that charities take advantage of this. By continuing to evolve its mobile website, British Red Cross is offering a service which allows people to donate, access information or find the stores in their local area quickly and easily.”
The partnership will also see Eduserv provide development support, a helpdesk for internal users and a single point of contact when resolving incidents with British Red Cross’s hosting provider. We're also providing ongoing support for British Red Cross Training.
