OpenAthens Extends Federation Support

12 July 2010

The number of federations OpenAthens can connect to has now been extended.

The use of OpenAthens by publishers, service and identity providers to connect to federations continues to grow. Thanks to OpenAthens’ support for open standards such as SAML, the number of federations OpenAthens can and is used by customers to connect to is now six:

1. eduID.cz (Czech federation)
2. GakuNin (Japan)
3. DFN-AAI (Germany)
4. RENATER (France)
5. SWITCHaai (Switzerland)
6. UK Access Management Federation (United Kingdom)

Eduserv's adoption of the key open standards reduces the number of technical changes required of publishers and service providers. As the standards themselves continue to mature and evolve, and federation policies change with more real-world experience, OpenAthens will absorb the impact of these changes, which in turn reduces support costs for publishers and other service providers.
