In November 2006 Eduserv tentatively decided to issue a grant call inviting suggestions for research into the use of 3D virtual worlds for learning and teaching. We were unsure what to expect in response. The result was overwhelming and by the autumn of the following year we had funded 3 research projects, held a successful and hugely over-subscribed symposium in May 2007, and were in the process of commissioning a series of snapshot studies looking at the uptake of Second Life in UK HE and FE, undertaken on our behalf by John Kirriemuir.

This event celebrated the success of these activities, looking at the lessons that have been learned over the last two and a half years, and discussing where we might go in the future. The day consisted of a series of presentations, each followed by a discussion, investigating some of the key themes and issues as we move forward.
