Internet Librarian International 2012
Re-imagine, Renew, Reboot: Innovating for Success!
A two day event, this year held in Olympia Conference Centre.
Tom Edmonds will present 'Beyond IP authentication – the next stage.'
Tom Edmonds, Product Manager for OpenAthens, will be presenting 'Beyond IP authentication – the next stage.'
Once upon a time patrons spent time in the library but with the explosion of the availability of online resources, where are your patrons going?
Are they studying and accessing resources at home, in the canteen or perhaps even whilst travelling?
Managing access for large numbers of users and increasing numbers of online resources can be straightforward, but there are many minefields along the way…have you avoided them by simply using IP authentication?
Can you see where your budget spend is going?
There are other authentication mechanisms which are now much easier to use, whilst also allowing you to see where your budget is going. Enabling access to online resources for your patrons from anywhere in the world is revolutionizing libraries – so you really will wonder where your patrons are going!
This session aims to consider the alternatives to IP authentication. Topics that will be discussed include federated access, SAML authentication, single sign-on and the management of information statistics to help you understand what resources your patrons are using - including who is reading what. With the use of integrated proxy services, Tom Edmonds will explore how you can enhance library services and access to resources with ever decreasing budgets.
