IFLA World Library & Information Congress 2012

IFLA 2012

13 - 14 August 2012

The World Library and Information Congress 2012 will take place at the Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre in Helsinki, Finland with the theme 'Libraries Now! - Inspiring, Surprising, Empowering'.

We'll be presenting the poster 'Managing the new normal – limited resources and delivering value for money' on Monday 13 and Tuesday 14 August.

Online subscription costs are increasing, budgets are shrinking and delivering value for money is becoming more and more important. Improve your ROI in three steps: re-negotiating subscriptions, implementing an access management solution and marketing new access mechanisms to users.

The poster will evidence that by implementing an access management solution, costs will decrease whilst the number of downloads of paid-for resources will increase. By following these steps, a UK university library increased the use of electronic resources by >230% in just two years whilst at the same time increasing the quality of degrees awarded. The poster will show how implementing an access management solution also decreased service desk enquiries, reduced library spend and enabled the university to provide SSO to cloud based applications, like Google Docs.

It will demonstrate different publisher subscription models and the success of new pricing models on patron satisfaction, and how the use of each step can bring genuine improvements to similar libraries around the world.
