Philips Electronics chooses single sign-on

More than 400 international organisations are now using Eduserv’s access and identity management products and services (Athens and OpenAthens) to securely access online research information.

Philips Electronics logoOne of the latest is Philips Electronics, a multi-national company that employs over 121,000 people in over 60 countries. It has one of the world’s largest corporate research organisations; employing more than 1,800 professionals.

Philips wanted a single-sign-on system based on their existing Microsoft Active Directory to provide secure access to their journals and resources. This would also allow them to phase out their own proxy server.

Our Athens service was able to link to their existing Active Directory, taking researchers straight to individual journals and providing statistics showing access rates to each resource by division. This allowed Philips to charge their research divisions in Holland, England, India and China based on access to their resources.
