Through the Chest Agreement, sites receive online access to the New Scientist Archive Online which includes access to all editions of New Scientist published during the Agreement plus access to all archived editions published back to 1989.  Sites also receive access to the specialist sites -- Space, Tech and Environment.

This Chest Agreement first began in 2007 in response to over 30 requests from Higher and Further Edcuation institutions.  This Chest Agreement is a renewal until 2013.

New Scientist is an important reference tool which gives users instant access to relevant and up-to-date science and technology content. This continually expanding library of news, analysis, facts and figures covers a large variety of science subjects including: life sciences, physics, chemistry, earth, environment, astronomy, space, maths and technology.

The subscription includes access to all editions published during the Chest Agreement plus access to all archived editions published between and including 1989 and the beginning of the Chest Agreement.

First year fees will depend on the time of year a site is joining the Chest Agreement (as above).  Subsequent years will be charged at the "Full Year" rate.

All pricing excludes VAT.



Payment Terms

This Agreement is of 3 years duration, commencing 1 October 2010 and terminating 30 September 2013. Institutions may sign to the Agreement at any time during that period, but having signed will be commited until the end of it.

On receipt of a completed Licence, Institutions will be invoiced for the Agreement year in which the Licence is signed.

For the subsequent year, Institutions will be invoiced three months in advance of the anniversary date of the Agreement, on 1 July.

All Purchase Orders must be made out to Eduserv and Eduserv's invoices must be paid within 30 calendar days of the date of the invoice.

Start date: 1 October 2010 End date: 30 September 2013

Institution Commitment Period

Institutions may participate at any time during the period and will be bound until 30 September 2013.

Who can use the resource?

'Authorised User' means a type of user who is a currently registered student of the Licensee, a faculty member or an employee of the Licensee, in each case authorised by the Licensee to access the Licensee's library and information services whether from a computer or terminal on the Licensee's Secure Network or offsite via a Secure Access Management System or, in the case of Licensed Materials, access to the Licensee's onsite library facilities.

What can authorised users do?

Termination Clauses

Material downloaded under the Agreement before its expiry may continue to be used under the same licence conditions as pertain while the Agreement exists. Once the Agreement has terminated then no further access to the service and to future publications will be possible unless the Agreement is renewed or extended. If the Agreement is renewed or extended then new conditions will apply. If the Agreement is not renewed then renewal is a matter between Institutions and Reed Business Information Ltd.


Personal Licences

Personal Licences are not available under this Agreement.
