Universities, colleges and other learning, educational and research bodies in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Other organisations aligned with Eduserv’s charitable objectives of supporting education, research bodies and the public sector may ask to participate in the Agreement. Eduserv will liaise with the Supplier about any such requests.

International Civil Engineering Abstracts provides online access to over 142,000 abstracts dating back to 1976 from the 150 most prominent journals in civil engineering. The ICEA accredited journal coverage list is compiled from the library holdings of civil engineering centres of excellence worldwide, such as the Institute of Civil Engineers and Imperial College, London.

Updates

The frequency of updates will vary with each journal title but all are included in the cost.

Alterations / Additions

All additions to the database are included in the annual subscription charge. All new functionality of the EMERALD platform is included for all products at no additional cost.

In addition to the Core Licence, there are additional optional licence extensions. These are described in the Licence information section.

Emerald International Civil Engineering Database

All prices are in GBP and exclude VAT.

Payment Terms

On receipt of a completed Order, Institutions will be invoiced for the Agreement year in which the Licence is signed.

In subsequent years, Institutions will be invoiced three months in advance of the anniversary date of the Agreement, on 1 October 2012 and 2013.

There is monthly pro-rata charging for Institutions which become licensed partway through a licence year.

All Purchase Orders must be made out to Eduserv and Eduserv's invoices must be paid within 30 calendar days of the date of the invoice.

Agreement Period

Start date: 01 January 2012 End date: 31 December 2014

Institution Commitment Period

This Agreement is of 3 years duration. Institutions may join the agreement at any time during the agreement period. They will then be committed to the end of the Agreement Period from the date of issue of the Licence unless they give notice to Eduserv before 15 September 2012 for renewals from 1 January 2013 and 15 September 2013 for renewals from 1 January 2014.

This Overview is designed to provide a general summary of the Agreement. Before committing to buy a Licence, potential subscribers must always read the licence terms, paying particular attention to any special licence conditions.

Licence Type

Site licence with Eduserv Standard Chest Licence Terms and Conditions. In addition to the Core Licence there are additional, optional extensions available;

• Option for Extended Educational Use – this extension is required if the licensee wants to extend secure access to students and the staff instructing them who are not members of the licensed institution. For example, users in partner colleges in UK or overseas or students on franchised or validated courses.
  
  Emerald has agreed to allow students who are registered at the licensed institution but who are also registered at another UK or Irish institution to access under the core licence without the need to purchase an extended educational option, whether or not the other UK or Irish Institution also holds a licence from Emerald.
  
  Emerald requires that the licensed institution must purchase an Extended Educational Use Licence for those students who are registered to another institution, but receive qualification accredited or validated by the licensed institution. This applies to both UK/Irish and overseas students.
  
• Licence Extension for Commercial Projects – this can be purchased in addition to the Option for Extended Educational Use and means that a licensee can use the resource in projects that are deemed ‘commercial’, for example; where they receive payment from third parties, for non-academic research, consultancy services or where they have the majority or controlling interest in a trading company, partnership, joint venture or other collaborations.
  
  Emerald has agreed that use of their resources by research students funded by commercial organisations does not constitute commercial use. These researchers are welcome to use the results of their research in their workplace, but having left the university must no longer be allowed access to Emerald resources under the university’s licence unless the university purchases an alumni extension.
  
• Optional Extension for Alumni - this extension can be purchased separately and allows the licensee to extend secure access to Alumni for “Educational Purposes”.
  

What institutions and library services are allowed to do?

The Core Licence allows the following activities;

Who can use the resource?

The Core Licence allows use by all Authorised Users, defined as Students, Staff and Walk-in Users – [see Licence Terms 1.1(a)(i)/(ii)/(iii)]

What can authorised users do?

The resources can be used for Educational Purposes – see Licence Term 1.1(b):

• education
• teaching
• distance learning
• private study
• academic research
• administration and management of the Licensee’s educational or research operations

Exclusions

• See Licence Term 3 for exclusions and restrictions
  
• The resources may not be used for anything other than Educational Purposes unless the Licence Extension for Commercial Projects has been bought; this allows use for the restricted “Commercial Projects” defined – see Annex B of the Licence (Licence Extension for Commercial Projects) and prices.
  
• Downloading of large amounts of material by authorised users that might be considered ‘systematic’.
  

Termination Clauses

Purchase is perpetual (although unless the Archive Is purchased the institution will not retain perpetual rights to access merely temporary access is granted whilst a subscription to the Frontlist is maintained). Material may continue to be accessed and downloaded under the Agreement after its expiry and can continue to be used under the same licence conditions as pertain while the Agreement exists.

Personal Licences

Personal Licences are not available under this Agreement.

Alumni specifically:

Where additional access has been subscribed to for Alumni (who have access to subscribing library’s facilities) they may copy parts of both hardcopy and electronic for personal use only and may not distribute it without requesting permission through either Rightslink or emailing permissions@emeraldinsight.com.
