This Overview represents the detail of the formal Agreement which exists between Eduserv and Emerald Group Publishing Limited (Emerald). The following sections are written to enable Institutions to make a decision as to whether or not the product is appropriate for their needs.

This agreement commences on 1st January 2009 and terminates on 31st December 2011.
Institutions may participate at any time during the period and will be bound until the end of the Agreement 31st December 2011.
The Institution commits to pay an upfront fee on signing up to this agreement or (for Higher Education only) an amortised fee over a three year period – the data is then the institutions to use under these terms and conditions in perpetuity and subject to no further charge provided they retain a subscription to the current data (EMX 95, EMX111, EMX125, EMX150, EMX175 or EMX Plus). The Agreement to which this refers is a formal Agreement between Eduserv and Emerald.
This Agreement is available to Higher and Further Education Institutions in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, Research Councils in the UK and to Eduserv Associated Sites.
Bona Fide education institutions in other countries may also be able to participate, for example, members of IATUL, but require approval on a case by case basis and on application to Eduserv.

Features:
Coverage back to Volume 1 Issue 1 with some articles dating back as far as 1899.
Over 120 journal titles will complete the Emerald Digital Backfiles, providing users with more than 60,000 articles on key management disciplines.
Each backfile has been transformed into a fully searchable PDF.
Emerald Backfiles contain early articles from seminal publications such as British Food Journal, European Journal of Marketing and Journal of Documentation.

Personal Licences are not available under this Agreement.
Material may continue to be accessed and downloaded under the Agreement after its expiry and can continue to be used under the same licence conditions as pertain while the Agreement exists.
Additions to the Backfile will only be included under this agreement at additional cost. The Backfile purchased is effectively “frozen” and is as per the title list and backfile depth.
Authorised Users:
“Authorised User" means a type of user who is a currently registered student of the Licensee, a faculty member or an employee of the Licensee, in each case authorised by the Licensee to access the Licensee's library and information services whether from a computer or terminal on the Licensee's Secure Network or offsite via a Secure Access Management System or, in the case of Licensed Materials, access to the Licensee's onsite library facilities.

Other Permitted Users:
means the following categories of User that are permitted to have access to the Products via a Licensee’s library and information services whether from a computer terminal on the Licensee’s Secure Network or offsite via a Secure Access Management System or via the Licensee’s onsite library facilities:

Inter-Library Loan
Emerald will allow, within the boundary of UK, Inter-Library Loan by supply from Licensed Institution to an authorised user of another library (whether by post, fax or secure electronic transmission, using Ariel or its equivalent, whereby the electronic file is deleted immediately after printing) a paper copy of an electronic original of parts of the Licensed Work.
Incorporation of parts of the Licensed Work
Emerald will allow incorporation of parts of the Licensed Work for use by Authorised Users in printed and electronic course packs, study packs, resource lists and in any other material to be used in the course of instruction and/or in virtual and managed environments hosted on a Secure Network. Emerald will allow incorporation in printed or electronic form in assignments and portfolios, theses and in dissertations including reproductions of same for personal use and library deposit.
Each item shall carry appropriate acknowledgement of the source, listing title and copyright owner.
Institutional Repositories
Emerald will allow Licensee to deposit the learning and teaching objects as created above in electronic repositories operated by the Licensee on a Secure Network and in the JORUM Repository. The access and use of such learning and teaching objects shall be governed by the terms and conditions of the applicable repository.
This agreement forms part of the renewal of the successful two previous agreements that Eduserv has negotiated with Emerald.
There is currently no trial available.

Copying of hardcopy and electronic documentation is permitted for staff and registered students and other permitted users except Alumni. Alumni specifically:
Where additional access has been subscribed to for Alumni (who have access to subscribing library’s facilities) they may copy parts of both hardcopy and electronic for personal use only and may not distribute it without requesting permission through either Rightslink or emailing permissions@emeraldinsight.com.

In addition signing up to the free Librarian service (registration required) available from Emerald will assist Librarian in keeping abreast of issues in Emerald.
Document delivery is available via Emerald's partner Infotrieve.

COUNTER Compliance
Emerald service currently adheres to the “COUNTER” (Counting Online Usage of NeTworked Electronic Resources) industry standards
OpenURL standards
Emerald service currently adheres to the OpenURL industry standards to format search requests and supply results so that the appropriate copy is returned to the user, in the form of a web page.
Federated Searching
Emerald Service does not currently support Bath Profile Z39.50 rules and procedures for communicating between two computer systems for searching and retrieving information from databases specification used. This is being considered for implementation in 2009.
Metadata Standards
Emerald currently uses XML standards for Metadata and data is delivered via XML, SGML and PDF
W3C Guidelines
For HTML web pages, Emerald follows W3C guidelines. W3C is the governing authority on Web development standards and practices.The W3C defines three accessibility levels in its Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) issue 1.0. In increasing levels of accessibility, these are: A , AA , and AAA. Emerald aims to make all public Web pages meet level AA, and will aspire to meet level AAA where possible within resource constraints.

Emerald provides MARC records for its Journal content
Full Text Linking
Emerald uses CrossRef and DOIs to provide reference linking services.
Personalisation features
Once a user has registered on ‘My Profile’ they can create a range of customized features, including: RSS Feeds; Saved Search Alerts, ToC Alerts and Weekly Digests of subscribed or all journals; create Marked Lists; and subscribe to Emerald Newsletters. There are a range of communities for different end-users (authors, librarians, researchers, teachers) which offer interactive participation

Shibboleth - sites will need to provide:
Affiliation, which indicates what type of users can access the resources. Values that are accepted in this field whould be student, staff, faculty, member, etc.
Scope, which indicates where these users are coming from within the university. Typical values here would be uni.ac.uk, staffmail.uni.ac.uk, etc..
Higher Education price to sites
An institution must purchase at the same product level as its current subscription. By way of example an institution subscribing to EMX 95 current data will pay £12,000 for the Backfile whereas an institution with a current subscription to EMX175 will pay £10,000.
If an institution upgrades their current subscription to a greater number of titles after purchase of the Backfile no refund shall be due in respect of the outright purchase or payment over 3 years.

Subscriptions to current content is available under the Emerald Management eJournals
The one off fee will be due on receipt of licence. There shall be no prorating of the fee.
The initial fee for the annual option will be due on receipt of licence or 1st January 2009 (whichever is the later) and 1st January annually thereafter for a period of two years making 3 equal instalments.
On receipt of full payment (as indicated in 23 above) no further charges are due provided a subscription to the current data is maintained. Otherwise the platform fee in force at the date of cancellation of current subscription shall apply.
All Purchase Orders must be made out to Eduserv and Eduserv's invoices must be paid within 30 calendar days of the date of the invoice.
