The Education Cloud includes the following products:

• vCloud Compute  
• VM Storage
• Connectivity

A web-based portal will soon be available to enable you to provision and manage resources, track usage and billing, and control access.

All Education Cloud products are delivered from our Swindon Data Centre.

vCloud Compute

VMware-based virtual machines, offered in a range of sizes from 1 vCPU and 512MB memory up to 24 vCPU and 48GB memory. Our vCloud Compute infrastructure is compatible with institutional VMware environments and is particularly suitable for resource bursting to cope with peaks in demand and DR capability. Virtual machines provisioned on our vCloud Compute infrastructure require some associated VM Storage.

VM Storage

High-performance 'block-level' storage dedicated to the virtual machines provisioned using vCloud Compute.

Connectivity

All our Education Cloud products have fully redundant dual 10Gbit/s connectivity into a new JANET PoP at our Swindon Data Centre. The PoP connects directly with the JANET backbone.

All vCloud Compute customers are assigned a single public IP address by default. Additional public IP addresses may be purchased separately.

OpenStack Compute (currently under consideration)

We are currently looking into the opportunities of offering OpenStack-based virtual machines.
