Eduserv Saves Institutions £600,000 on Microsoft Licences
Education Support Centre (ESC) Consultation
There appears to be some confusion in the Community around the status of Oracle's recently announced new Campus Agreement. Just to clarify matters: Eduserv and a Steering Group from UCISA have been in negotiation with Oracle for over a year and although some progress was made we were unable to reach an agreement, particularly over two points: pricing and transition plan from the old to the new agreements.
We understand that other of our concerns, clarity in the definition of an FTE, fixed standard terms and conditions and improved communications with the Community have been addressed in the offer that Oracle is now marketing to you. However, without sight of the final arrangements we are unable to confirm this at this time.

The take up of the Chest Microsoft Campus Agreement since it started last November has been phenomenal – especially considering that most sites’ existing Microsoft Campus Agreements don’t come up for renewal until the summer.
Based on the staff numbers of the sites already signed up, Chest will save these institutions over £600,000 during the term of the agreement. These savings are just on the preferential pricing obtained from Microsoft and don’t include reduced procurement costs and additional discounts obtained from the resellers as part of our tender exercise.
With the majority of sites’ Campus renewals due in the next six months, we expect to increase these savings to well in to seven figures.

SAS has confirmed to Eduserv that SAS Online Tutor Advanced will now be included in the base package 'SAS Education Analytic Suite'. This is excellent news as originally it was thought that SAS would be charging extra for this product.
We are currently renegotiating our Agreement with ESC which is due to expire in December. ESC provides technical support for English language versions of software produced by Microsoft Ltd and available under the Microsoft Select and Campus Agreements. This includes help services, fault diagnosis and, where possible, recommendations for correction.
We would like any feedback from sites currently using the Agreement or those who may be interested in a future Agreement. Sites can see the pricing proposed by ESC or submit any comments they may have on the Agreement to Nicola Garwood at Nicola.garwood@eduserv.org.uk . Information on the current Agreement can be found on the Agreement’s website.
