ESRI Agreement update

The popular agreement for ESRI GIS software has been renewed for a further 3 year and 5 month term until 31 July 2011 following significant effort on the part of ESRI, ESRIUK, the ESRI Focus Group and Eduserv.

The Agreement is open to institutions of Higher and Further Education, and Research Councils in the United Kingdom and ThirdLevelColleges in the Republic of Ireland.  In addition some Associate Chest sites in the museums and library sectors are also eligible to subscribe to this software.  This is more limited than previous Chest agreements with ESRI. The restriction to the type of eligible organization does mean that some organisations previously licensed under the Chest Agreement are no longer able to benefit.  ESRI UK is contacting each of these sites to make other arrangements.  Associate sites, interested in a new subscription to ESRI software, should contact chesthelp@eduserv.org.uk for information.

Eduserv will continue to represent the interests of universities and colleges with regard to a number of issues that have been raised.  Currently these will be pursued in the following ways;

·         With the support of the ESRI Focus Group, we will seek the guidance of appropriate government departments on best practice in dealing with the apparent conflict between UK anti-discrimination laws and US export regulations.

·         We are engaged with ESRI to establish whether there is a technical solution to lock down the source code.

·         We anticipate confirmation that the problems relating to delivery of licence keycodes have been resolved.

There is an additional benefit to institutions subscribing to this agreement.  ESRI has agreed to provide one complimentary registration to each participating site to the annual ESRI Education User Conference (EdUC) and the ESRI International User Conference (UC) that takes place in the United States during the period of the Agreement.  Details on how delegates should register can be found on the Eduserv web site.

Details about the Chest Agreement with ESRI can be found here

If you want to subscribe, then please complete;

·          Two copies of the Licence Schedule 4 Part 1 http://www.eduserv.org.uk/upload/chest/agreements/esri_2008/(f)%20schedule%204%20part%201.doc

·          One copy of the Product Order Form http://www.eduserv.org.uk/upload/chest/agreements/esri_2008/addendum%20a%20to%20schedule%204%20-%20amended.doc> .

·          To speed your renewal you can fax copies of these documents to 01225 333084 or by email to chesthelp@eduserv.org.uk

·          The originals must then be sent by mail to Eduserv, Queen Anne House, 11 Charlotte Street, Bath, BA1 2NE.

Invitation to talk on about bibliographic software from Adept Scientific

(The following is published on behalf of Adept Scientific)

You are invited to come and talk to Jason Rollins (Director of Product Development at Thomson ResearchSoft) and Jim Pringle (Vice President of Product Development for Thomson Scientific) senior executives for the developers of EndNote, Reference Manager and EndNote Web. The aim is to set up a two-way information exchange whereby you share your experience and knowledge of bibliographic software requirements in education, while the software experts let you in on future plans for upcoming versions and future software directions.  The ultimate goal is to enable Thomson ResearchSoft to improve their offering for future releases to ensure the software better fits academic requirements.

Whether it's a morning or afternoon session, in York or in Edinburgh, hopefully there's a date, time and venue to suit your busy diary.

Please select your preferred date, time and venue. Each meeting will last approximately 3 hours.
