1. ASTM Digital Library and Standards – new agreement

Eduserv is delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with ASTM and its UK agent Content Online for ASTM Digital Library and Standards Package.  This covers the complete ASTMlibrary of books, journals, and papers and not a subset or cut down version.

Pricing information is restricted to academic institutions and is available, along with more agreement details, from here

http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/agreements/data/existing/astm

The agreement is for one year only but sites have the option of licensing the product for one year (from when the licence is granted) or for a full three year period (for which payment must be made upfront).  The agreement is heavily discounted (saving approximately 40%) and cannot be bettered by any consortia arrangement worldwide.  In addition this agreement benefits from Other Permitted Users being allowed to use the product including retired members of staff, visiting academics, researchers and research supervisors from other educational or research establishments, visiting students from other educational establishments and students undertaking a course of study leading to a qualification awarded by the Licensee.

If you require further information or cannot access the detailed information upon our web site please do not hesitate to contact

2. APA Agreement renewal news

114 institutions subscribe to one or more APA products (PsycINFO, PsycARTICLES, PsycBOOKS, PsycEXTRA and PsycCRITIQUES) through the current Chest Agreement with APA.

We have, on renewal, negotiated preferential rates that mean sites subscribing through Chest will see discounts of up to 23% on the data fee from what they would each pay if they purchased direct.  In addition new subscribers can save another 15% off the already discounted figures in the first year on taking a subscription to PsycARTICLES and PsycBOOKS.

We have competitively tendered the service provision from 5 potential vendors - each offers a guaranteed level of service and fixed, lower pricing throughout the three year term of the agreement, giving institutions real choice in terms of interface for their users.

We estimate that over the three year term of the agreement potential shared savings of £1.5 million could be achieved. We anticipate that more sites will join the agreement and existing subscribers will add new products - these two factors will see savings increase still further.

Current subscribers have been contacted individually with specific details of their renewal.  10 have already submitted their renewal paperwork; another 70 are required so that we can finalise the price for the data.

If you are interested in a new subscription then please contact

nikki.green@eduserv.org.uk ASAP.  Agreement details will be published on the web site in the next few weeks.

3. Newsbank Newspapers survey

NewsBank provides academic libraries with web-based resources designed specifically for their research containing a wide variety of UK and world newspapers.

Under the Chest Agreement with NewsBank sites can subscribe to the "Access UK & Ireland Newspapers" package which features more than 250 national, local and regional newspapers and the "Non-UK International Titles" package which provides more than 120 major international newspapers from around the world.

All NewsBank content is accessible through a newly designed map-based interface that can be customised in 10 ways. The interface allows searching or browsing of a single title or several titles. Information retrieved is easily viewed by date, newspaper or country. Authentication is easily handled. Content is updated daily, accessible 24/7 from your library or remotely. Usage information is readily available. An extensive tutorial and support materials are included with the product.

7. EndNote Web now available under Thomson Scientific Inc Agreement

Adept Scientific and Eduserv are pleased to announce an amendment to the agreement between Eduserv and Thomson Scientific to extend it to 2013

, with the addition of site-wide licences for EndNote Web.  Under the revised Chest Agreement institutions can now add EndNote Web to their EndNote desktop site licences free of charge or purchase a yearly licence for EndNote Web as a stand-alone package.

EndNote Web is an intuitive web-based bibliographic referencing tool that is suitable for undergraduate and further education students who do not require the full power and flexibility of a desktop package. It provides the tools to help students to collect references and to cite and format them correctly in their essays, papers and dissertations.

Designed to work with EndNote desktop, EndNote Web has the flexibility of the internet and the reliability its predecessor. References can be transferred between the two packages easily allowing users to continue their work wherever they are.

EndNote Web puts minimal strain on university or college IT resources because, as a web-based research solution, individual user accounts are held on the Thomson Reuters server. When updates are released, they go live immediately and are automatically available when users log in to their accounts - no IT intervention is required.

9. Your Data Wishes

If you would like Eduserv Chest to investigate an Agreement for data that would benefit your institution, why not make a wish?  Wishes are the main way for you to tell us which products we should be negotiating on your behalf.

To make a new wish visit our

Future Agreements section.

Latest wishes

There are no new wishes since the last publication of the Data Messenger. However, as a result of interest from 10 sites we have managed to secure an agreement for ASTM Digital Library and Standards. We are actively seeking agreement with other publishers represented on the wish list. So please keep sending your wishes in; this is a very important and simple way to keep us informed about potential new Chest agreements.
