1. PsycARTICLES, PsycINFO, PsycBOOKS, PsycEXTRA and PsycCRITIQUES

Negotiations for renewal of the agreements with APA (American Psychological Association) have been finalised.

Sites can now compare the information from the 5 service providers that responded to our tender questionnaire and their prices http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/agreements/data/existing/apa_2008

Subscribers to the current agreement will be sent commitment forms shortly.  It is important that these are submitted quickly as the final price for the content will depend on the number of institutions that subscribe.

If you are undecided about whether you would like a subscription to any of these resources we have arranged an extended 60 day trial period with all service providers so that current and potential subscribers can see the benefits of each interface and have the opportunity to road test them.  To take advantage of this offer please complete the Trial Request Formand return via email to nikki.green@eduserv.org.uk with subject "APA Trial".

2. Inspec Agreement renewal news

The agreement for the Inspec database of bibliographic information which gives access to the world's scientific and technical literature in physics, electrical engineering, electronics, communications, control engineering, computers and computing, and information technology from the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology) is currently being renewed.  The data fees have been finalised and the service providers are being asked to reply to tender questionnaires shortly.  Sites which currently subscribe to the Inspec agreement will be notified of details in the next few weeks.

3. Nielsen BookData Search & Discovery Tools Agreement

Many institutions may be under-utilizing their subscription to BookData Online by not taking full advantage of the site’s special features and personalization options.  Nielsen is encouraging subscribers to seek out the thorough help facilities – integrated online help and downloadable help notes – from the Nielsen website (http://www.nielsenbookdata.co.uk/controller.php?page=178).

5. June webinars from Adept Scientific introducing software to help manage references and write essays

UK technical software specialists Adept Scientific are running a series of free 1/2-hour webinars to demonstrate just how much time and effort EndNote, EndNote Web and Reference Manager could save users when it comes to finding and storing useful references, citing authors and creating bibliographies. These events make an ideal introduction to reference management software; need-to-know information for anyone involved in research, especially for staff and students enrolled at sites with a relevant Chest licence. Please pass on this information to anyone who would benefit from a software overview.

Please note, these webinars are not designed to act as software training sessions. To improve your knowledge of using our bibliographic tools, please refer to Adept’s range of public courses at http://www.adeptscience.co.uk/training/

View the upcoming webinar schedule and enroll http://www.adeptscience.co.uk/training/index.html?cat=online_seminars

If you'd like more information about Adept's web seminars or would like to set up a session solely for your institution, please email Stephanie Marshall on biblio@adeptscience.co.uk

6. Over 200 institutions commit to OpenAthens

Since the end of Jan 220 institutions have confirmed their commitment to subscribe to OpenAthens from 1st Aug 2008.  A subscription to OpenAthens enables universities and colleges in the UK to participate in the UK Access Management Federation without the upheaval of having to implement and support new software (Shibboleth). Institutions may subscribe to OpenAthens anytime. The final subscription rates will be confirmed in June and any further discounts will be applied if over 300 institutions commit to OpenAthens by close of business Fri 30th May. See http://www.athensams.net/

If you have any questions relating to OpenAthens or the UK Access management Federation feel free to contact the OpenAthens helpdesk openathens@eduserv.org.uk or telephone 01225 474380.

7. Your data wishes
