MapSheets Statement

The Chest Agreement for MapSheets has been terminated.

ERDAS has sent the following announcement to Chest concerning the withdrawal of their MapSheets product.

"ERDAS is pleased to announce that the MapSheets desk top image mapping software is now to be made available exclusively via Digital Worlds. Following the successful development of MapSheets by Digital Worlds as a teaching solution for meeting the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) component of the National Curriculum, MapSheets will be available from Digital Worlds with immediate effect. The decision was made by ERDAS on account of the huge demand for entry level imaging software at secondary school level upwards and its assimilation into the National Cirriculum. Digital Worlds have included access to Ordnance Survey geo-spatial products in MapSheets for sites licensed to receive this data under the OSLO agreement. MapSheets provides students with an 'all-in-one' introduction to geographical imagery and GIS data using intuitive image viewing, map generation, blending of layers and OLE2 links to Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Jonathan Shears, General Manager of ERDAS (UK) comments that 'the integration of MapSheets within a complete package tailored for geography teachers, makes Digital Worlds an ideal channel for MapSheets'. Jason Sawle, Director of Digital Worlds adds that 'with new broadband networks being installed by many local education authorities for schools, offers a great opportunity for MapSheets and the OS data to be accessed from local servers.'

For those Chest sites who currently use MapSheets and would like to know how their current licence can be upgraded, contact Jason Sawle at Digital Worlds, , or visit their web site www.digitalworlds.co.uk
