Team members answer questions about themselves and their role at Eduserv

I help develop content management system websites using the Sitecore platform, which is a .NET based solution – that’s my specialism.
I've recently lead a project for redeveloping, in Sitecore, the Licence Negotiation Services area of the Eduserv site to add personalised log-in for institutions.
As well as development work, I also do things like prototype requirements. I’ll flesh out customer requirements and come up with an interactive protoype site that we can put in front of the customer and get agreement on what we are going to deliver. That gives us a very clear steer for development.
I’ve been here for two years. I’m a statistics graduate and then spent ten years working for a large government department.
There are plenty of opportunities here to get very deep into new technology, and if you want you can delve into the next shiny new thing. Personally I like to concentrate on one area and aim to get to the highest level within that – it’s something I am able to do here.
Eventually I want to be a hands-on team leader, and I’ve been given the opportunity to cover for the team leader during leave. If you show an interest in a particular area, there is always the opportunity, and encouragement, to get involved.
On the development side, I get a real sense of satisfaction from seeing something I have been working out in my mind turn into reality.
The work here is challenging – there’s quite a steep learning curve, but then you get greater rewards too and greater satisfaction from your work.
I also enjoy the fact that you are encouraged, and able, to contribute more than just your specified role – I’ve started off a monthly problem clinic, which is basically a knowledge sharing time when we get the team together and discuss any problems we’ve had or ideas we want to share, and that has proved very popular.
