Umbraco CMS

Although we're known as Sitecore CMS development experts, many of our customers are interested in open source solutions.

After carefully reviewing what the open source marketplace had to offer we selected Umbraco for creating websites that deliver exceptional value for our customers.

Umbraco is an established and mature product that has been used to build over 85,000 websites. It’s used by some of the world’s largest companies including Microsoft, Sony and Toyota.

Open Source software with no licensing costs

There are no annual subscription fees. After your initial development and build work, your costs are likely to be lower than with proprietary software.

.NET CMS - highly extensible

Umbraco uses industry-standard languages and patterns including HTML, CSS, jQuery, and C# making it highly extensible.

Being built on .NET allows Umbraco to make use of Microsoft web services connecting information, people, systems and devices.

Optimise your content for search engines

Umbraco is designed to help your website achieve higher rankings in search engines. Editors can add metadata to content created including keywords, tags and categories. Combined with the native delivery of friendly URLs, this helps improve the relevance and probability of content being found by search engines.

User-friendly editing

The Umbraco user interface offers no frills, but this means that it’s very easy for content editors to use and developers can customise it to meet specific requirements.

Large development community

Umbraco has a large and committed community of developers who share code, knowledge and add-on packages. We can help you to benefit from this community, shaping the CMS to meet your organisation’s needs. Developers can also use this community to ask questions about problems they have encountered, with the network responding quickly with suggestions.

One of the few supported open source CMS

As with any website we build, we provide support and after care to give you complete peace of mind. This service is underpinned by an enterprise level support agreement directly with Umbraco that provides support and advice from their core development team.

Flexibility and control

Document types provide the core building blocks of any Umbraco CMS. They allow custom content types to be created from a large range of data types (rich text, links, date pickers) and are used by content editors to create content within the CMS.

Umbraco also has a clear separation of content and presentation, so that content is presented using macros which are reused on multiple templates – this means that you will be able to surface content in multiple areas of your website, for example near relevant news and event listings.

Eduserv’s proposal to use Umbraco to develop our website demonstrated a clear understanding of our immediate needs and will provide a CMS that has the flexibility to be enhanced as our business dynamics change.
